Flat Easter Bunny Tutorial and Template

Easter is just around the corner! Can you believe it?

I love rabbit and bunny silhouettes.  So classic and fun and SO perfect for Easter and Spring time.  I loved this project because I had everything on hand ready to go! All you need is felt or wool, coordinating embroidery floss, and coordinating (small!) scraps of fabric.

To start, cut around the full rabbit template (found at the bottom of this post) on a folded piece of felt or wool.  This gives you both sides of your bunny.

The inner ears of these bunnies are perfect to accent your favorite fabric.  And you don't need very much.  Cut around the ear of your template on a folded piece of fabric.

Using a buttonhole stitch, hand stitch the inner ear/fabric to the inside (wrong side, technically) of your felt.  An awesome buttonhole visual (and loads of other fun embroidery stitches, and perhaps my most favorite site of all the internet) is here.

Do this for both sides, then buttonhole stitch around the whole bunny, lightly lightly stuffing it as you get closer to finishing it.

Finish it off, and make a small pom-pom with matching embroidery floss (matching either the felt color, or a color in the fabric.  Both is cute!) I make pom-poms with embroidery floss, the same as you would for yarn (and if you have yarn on hand, by all means, use it!) Here is a great tutorial for small pom-poms.

Embroidery floss pom-poms don't "fill" up as nicely as yarn would (they're not as round), but I liked the silky aspect of floss.

Lastly, sew the pom-pom to the tail end (hehe) of your bunny, and enjoy! These are the cutest spring decor.

And so perfect in baskets!
